Vann Thomas Powell at the Crafts Center

We love seeing what our midwest nice artists are up to! Congratulations to Vann Thomas Powell for their solo exhibition, On Contentious Ground, at the Crafts Center at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC ✨ Vann is one of our jurors for the upcoming archive the west call for art.

On Contentious Ground is on view now until July 31, 2025, with a reception on June 11th from 7-9pm.
On Contentious Ground examines the lasting impact the American Civil War has on who we are today. By picturing visitors in these spaces and how they interact with memory and reflect on slavery’s legacy and the cost of freedom for everyone in our nation, I aim to capture the reverberations of the Civil War rippling into our time, as if to picture the long shadow the Civil War has cast onto today.
