Midwest nice art is excited to announce our fourth annual contemporary juried national exhibition! this exhibition will be juried by Midwest Nice Art co-founders tim rickett + Epiphany Knedler. Each year the nice; exhibition serves as a survey of contemporary artists exploring complex personal and social narratives. as an open call without a theme, the resulting show is a reflection of the art world and recent events. we invite you to submit to nice;04.

The awards will include a $300 First-Place Prize, a $200 Second-Place Prize, a $100 Third-Place Prize, and four $50 Honorable Mention Prizes.

Important Dates:

  • May 20, 2026 — Deadline for receiving entry submissions

  • June 1, 2026 — Notification of acceptance

  • June 30, 2026 — Deadline shipment for receipt of accepted works

  • July 13 - September 11, 2026 — Exhibition open

  • September 10, 2026 - Closing Reception

  • September 21, 2025 — Works begin to be shipped back

Midwest Nice Art is a collective cofounded by Epiphany Knedler and Tim Rickett in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Epiphany is an assistant professor of art and art history and coordinator of the Art department at Northern State University and a Content Editor with LENSCRATCH; her work has been exhibited in the New York Times, Lucie Foundation, Lensculture, and Photolucida Critical Mass. Tim is an Assistant Professor of 3D Media and Gallery Director at Northern State University; his work has been exhibited in Juxtapoz’s Surreal Salon 16, SooVac with the Jealous Curator, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art.

FAQ

  • the exhibition will take place at JFAC Gallery on the Northern State University campus in Aberdeen, South Dakota from July 13 to September 11, 2026.

  • The work will be shipped at the responsibility of the lending artist.

  • Work must be framed, wired, or otherwise ready for exhibition. Please include installation instructions for work, if needed. 

  • work must be smaller than eight feet tall and five feet wide, and cannot weigh more than 30 pounds.

  • At this time, Midwest Nice Art is unable to carry art insurance for work on exhibition. Artists will receive a flat $200 in response if a work gets damaged during the exhibition. Great care will be taken with all work, but artists/enders are responsible for insuring their own pieces for the full amount if they wish. We recommend taking photographs of work and boxes before and after shipping.

  • Midwest Nice Art will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the gallery. Photographic and written condition reports will be immediately provided to the artist should imperfection or damage occur. Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entered image. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

  • All work will be installed by Midwest Nice Art. Artists must provide specialty equipment for hanging and display if required for the work.

  • All works must be received by June 30, 2026. C.O.D. Deliveries will not be accepted.

  • All works must include a prepaid return label.  Works must be shipped in reusable packing containers. Hand-delivered items must be scheduled with Midwest Nice Art.

  • Return of artwork will begin September 21, 2026. 

  • Commission/percentage will not be charged for purchases in the gallery. If interested parties contact the artist directly, Midwest Nice Art will contact them. 

  • Midwest Nice Art and NSU reserve the right to reproduce accepted entries in catalogs, press releases, social media, and on their websites. Artists retain all rights to their work.
